Hauppauge, New York - Communications Specialties, Inc. (CSI) introduced a revolutionary new fiber optic product, Fiberlink® FlexPOD, that offers broadcast engineers unrivaled optical signal distribution flexibility. Fiberlink FlexPOD is a configurable passive optical signal distribution system to create up to 4 different and independent optical coarse wave division multiplexers (CWDM), wave division multiplers (WDM) and/or Splitters in 1RU!
FlexPOD can be configured with a CWDM to multiplex up to 16 optical signals on a single fiber, 4 WDMs to multiplex 8 signals onto 4 fibers, 4 optical splitters to split 4 input sources onto 16 fibers, or any combination of CWDMs, WDMs and splitters.
FlexPOD comes with four option bays and the options include:
CWDM 4 optical signals onto one fiber; requires one option bay CWDM 8 optical signals onto one fiber; requires two option bays CWDM 16 optical signals onto one fiber; requires four option bays WDM 2 optical signals onto one fiber; requires one option bay Split an optical signal onto two fibers; requires one option bay Split an optical signal onto four fibers; requires one option bayNot all option bays need to be utilized and options can be added to unused bays by the factory.
CWDM and WDM signals can be transmitted in any direction and FlexPOD can be used upstream, midstream or downstream. CWDM options operate with single mode fiber and WDM and Splitter options function with single mode or multimode fiber. FlexPOD requires no power to operate and can be equipped with ST or LC connectors.
"Fiberlink FexPOD offers broadcasters the ability to maximize their fiber optic infrastructre by multiplexing multiple signals in any direction onto a single fiber optic core," says Paul Seiden, Director of Sales. "Additionally, they can split their sources into multiple optical signals for point-to-multipoint signal distribution without the need for multiple transmitters or distribution amplifiers. Best of all, they can do all of this with one customizable unit; no need for multiple pieces of costly hardware consuming rack real estate."
Fiberlink FlexPOD is available immediately.

Hauppauge, New York - Communications Specialties, Inc. (CSI) announced the latest additions to the Copperlink™ Series of SMPTE compliant 3G/HD/SD-SDI signal distribution systems: Model 2353 that converts 3G/HD/SD-SDI and embedded audio to HDMI with stereo audio.
The Copperlink 2353 accepts a SMPTE compliant 3G/HD/SD-SDI input via coax, automatically detects and selects the output resolution with no scaling and converts it to HDMI. If audio is present in the SDI data stream, the operator can choose one of up to 8 pairs of stereo audio to embed into the HDMI baseband signal as well as output on the convenient audio RCA connections. Alternatively, the operator may choose to mute any existing audio.
"This new Copperlink HDMI converter is ideal for all broadcast applications," says Paul Seiden, Director of Sales. "Now, integrators and broadcast engineers can manage their video and audio signals in a very repeatable and predictable manner using SDI while cost effectively integrating low-cost, high definition displays and computer monitors. A confidence monitoring application for example; you can route and switch your SDI signal to multiple HDMI displays and select a different language or audio pair to output at each display without having to purchase expensive, production quality reference displays."
The Copperlink 2353 supports SMPTE 259M, 292 and 424M-2006 and the input signal is equalized and reclocked. Standard on Copperlink 2353 is a reclocked BNC loop output for continuous 3G/HD/SD-SDI signal distribution. The unit is immune to pathological signals over the entire operating temperature range.
Available in a small footprint box, it is ideal for broadcast or corporate studios, OB vans, confidence monitoring and more!
Copperlink 2353 will be available in Spring, 2011.

Hauppauge, New York - Communications Specialties, Inc. (CSI) introduced a new Fiberlink® optical distribution amplifier (ODA)with both a copper and an optical input source. The Fiberlink 8200 Series of optical distribution amplifiers accept a 3G/HD/SD-SDI or DVB-ASI signal via BNC or its optical input and outputs it on one, two, three or four independently driven optical fibers. A convenient front panel switch allows the operator to toggle between the copper and the optical input sources.
Both the copper and optical inputs are SMPTE compliant and the optical input will accept any SMPTE 297-2006 compliant signal. All SMPTE compliant signals are equalized and reclocked and each unit comes equipped with a BNC loop-through for continuous copper extension. Fiberlink 8200 supports both multimode and single mode fiber and can be equipped with ST or LC optical connectors.
Fiberlink 8200 Series can be used as a point-to-multipoint distribution hub, an inline repeater for optical extension or to interface between multimode and single mode fibers with active repeating. The unit can be integrated with Fiberlink Matrix for complex signal switching and distribution. Fiberlink 8200 can be integrated with Fiberlink FlexPOD and Fiberlink CWDMs when configured with CWDM compatible output wavelengths.
"Broadcast engineers have long sought the flexibility of an optical distribution amplifier with both a copper input and an optical input," says Paul Seiden, Director of Sales. "The Fiberlink 8200 Series of ODAs delivers that in a low cost, high value package that provides exceptional performance and flexibility."
Fiberlink 8200 Series is available with one optical output (8201), two optical outputs (8202), three optical outputs (8203) or four optical outputs (8204).
Fiberlink 8220 Series will be available in Spring, 2011.
